One of the things the Coopers and the Shinners have done well over all these years, is family get together. It has always been very important to be together on all the big holidays. They would be Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Passover and various birthdays.
So for example we just celebrated Rosh Hashanah this past weekend and we had everyone over to us for dinner. Since we have a fairly small apartment we just had the great grandmas, Jessica and her family, Jonathan and his significant other Rachel and my sister Elise. Eleven people and in what we tried to be a socially distant manner. So even through this pandemic we try to have family time.
And the evolution is coming full circle. At this point in my life I am the patriarch. I am the oldest male now. It seems like yesterday when I looked forward to visiting my grandfather in Coney Island and I was the youngest male at the family gathering. But everyone of these family get together sis building family memories. I just wonder what scenes are being stored in Jake and Jenna’s mind? What are they absorbing at these gatherings? I do know that they really seem to enjoy coming to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. I really believe they like seeing us. They are only six and four and I hope this feeling on their part continues. Just like a talk about my grandparents 35 and 50 years after their passing, I can only hope my grandchildren speak of me and remember me with affection 50 years from now. They and my children, of course, are my legacy.
