It is Rosh Hashanah 2020 or 5781 in the Jewish calendar. Now I am not a big Shul goer but this year, in the year of the pandemic, no congregants can go to the synagogue for services. It is all being done by zoom or streaming. We can go to services in the comfort of our own home. Social distancing and no large crowds are the order of the day. The nice thing about going to services is the friendship and the visiting with friends. I do miss all the people in the Men’s Club and the functions we run. It will get back to normal.
Also in this season of weird, my beloved Islanders were just eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs. They lost to Tampa in six games and Tampa will play Dallas for the Stanley Cup. This is as close as the Islanders have gotten in 27 years. They are a good team and hopefully will challenge for the Cup for many years to come.
Also on this Rosh Hashanah 2020 Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg passed away. With the presidential election in less then two months we will now watch and see if Trump and the Republicans try to fill the vacancy before the election. And if so are there enough votes in the Senate to confirm the nominee. We are in extremely interesting times in this country.
Also, will the results of the election be accepted by the candidates? The president is already saying the election is rigged. He is also saying that absentee ballots are rigged and voting by mail is a fraud. Only problem is that every election review commission that has been impaneled over the years has found no evidence of voter fraud. He is setting the country up for a crisis when it doesn’t exist. I am worried and I am normally an optimistic person.
