The pandemic goes on. We are up to 160,000 deaths in the U.S. and while the infection level is way down here in NY; below 1%, it is much higher in the rest of our country. Social distancing and mask wearing just doesn’t seem to be at the necessary levels in the rest of the county and most states opened their states earlier then they should in an effort to get people back to work. But if the virus is not suppressed business will not come back the way it should. And opening schools in a few weeks here in NY might turn into a big mess. How do you socially distance a four and six year old? How do you make them wear masks? I don’t want my grandchildren getting sick and I don’t want them to be the guinea pigs to find out what works and what doesn’t.
About the only good thing that has come out of this mess is that they’re playing NHL hockey in August. The season was paused back in March. And now the league has restarted with a tournament being played in Canada to determine a Stanley Cup winner. The Islanders are in the tournament and are going into the first round of the playoffs. So for at least the next week they will play Washington in the first round. So I have Hockey to watch in August. I will be watching playoff hockey on my birthday August 16. I would never have predicted this. But 2020 has been turned upside down, down is up, up is down and hockey is a summertime sport. Let’s go Islanders!
