I was watching TV this evening and a special came on about landing on the moon. Turns out it is 51 years to the day that man landed on the moon.
As I have written above the summer of 69 was my cross country trip when I was 15 years old. I have detailed it above. And I did mention that we were in Virginia City, Nevada that exact evening. Our group was staying at a really rinky dink motel just outside of the downtown Virginia City Main Street. It was a short walk from our motel to downtown. And as it also already wrote we watched man walk on the moon on a small black and white TV in the hotel lobby.
Later in the evening we walked into town and along the wood built side walk checking out all the souvenir shops and arcades. Just about every business had their TV’s on watching the moon landing.
I have been back to Virginia City a couple of times believe it or not, and it hasn’t changed all that much. It’s a tourist destination with a very old west vibe. It also pays tribute to one of its most famous residents Samuel Clemons, better known as Mark Twain. Virginia City is not far from Reno , Carson City and Lake Tahoe.
