Very interesting course of events. The virus here in New York right now is at a very low infection level. Only about 1% of tests done are coming back positive for the virus. The social distancing, mask wearing and washing hands initiative has worked here in the N.Y. metro area. Our lockdown is pretty much over but we reopened by geographical area and only after certain metrics were met.
The problem we have is that the rest of the country opened much too quickly and skipped steps in their reopening of their states. Overall the country has the worst amount of transmission of the virus since the pandemic started. The southern states and California have terrible outbreaks. In Florida only a few days ago they had over 15,500 confirmed cases of the virus in just one day. That’s worse than even any one day in NY at our apex of the disease.
Our health care professionals tell us if everyone wears masks, socially distances and washes hands we can bring down the infection rate. But these precautions have been politicized with our President not embracing these guideline because they portray a lack of normalcy. With close to 140,000 deaths in the US And our economy pretty much still closed you would think the President would do the scientifically proven things to get the virus under control. So far it hasn’t worked out that way.
